Can anyone explain me what is the actual purpose of Computed Column in d365fo?

I have gone through the MSDN Documentaion and I have a very good understanding on the theoretical part but when it comes to Implementation i am stuck cause i dont get it how it actually works practically. It would be really helpful if someone could give me a walkthrough of how it actually works.
