On Order qty split in D365fo

Hi All,

From Sales order line level to components level, we would like to see below information may be in 1 click.

1. On Hand inventory of all components. (We use PCM and also standard BOM).
2. Remaining Qty  = On Hand inventory - Qty that is available in COmponents level of Production order.
3. Qty on Open Purchase orders - So that they can visualize all in one screen to visualize the open orders and its delivery date from vendor to plan for there production in D365fo.

I know we have ways to get it by clicking multiple  clicks on on hand form and also on Open purchase order lines, but on PCM components n exploring it may be in single click would be helpful.

Thanks.
I have the same question (0)

    Hi

it's natural to say that you wish to view information when sales order is entered but for the system it's the links from the sales orders down to the BOM items is what matters,

    Ideally process is

1 - Sales order is entered
2 - Production order is manually created for by MRP
3 - Master Planning is run (Scheduled)
4 - Planned purchase and transfer orders are created
5 - At this stage you are in a good position to analyze data as system has done a detailed check using MRP

Below are the 4 options you can evaluate

    1. Explosion (on the planned production order) - Think of this as the “X‑ray view” of the BOM. One clicks and you see every component, how much is needed, what’s on‑hand, and what MRP has already planned to cover the gaps.

    2. Net requirements (per item/component) - Zoom in on a single part — chain, rim, pedal — and see its full supply/demand story: stock, open POs, planned POs, and reservations. Perfect for drilling into problem children.

    3. Production floor management workspace - The cockpit view. Run a material availability check and instantly know if your production order is green, amber, or red on component readiness. Great for operational go/no‑go decisions.

    4. Planned orders workspace - The planner’s dashboard. All planned supply (production + purchase) in one place, filterable by your finished good. Less about one order, more about the big picture of supply coverage.

    Hi Kishore,

You mentioned it is not working for PCM items, i hope you are referring to "Product configuration models" here.. In PCM also system maintains the BOM versions similar to other items, but this time it also captures the Configuration number in BOM versions headers, so while filtering this must also be used in filter.. so it will resolve your issues related to On-hand part.

Regarding the open purchases order lines,

Similarly, you can prepare a query and save it,

Please let us know what is the challenge you are facing in using this solution.. in this solution, you need to go to one extra form which is "Open Purchase order lines" but i don't feel it will take much time, as person just need to put the item number and configuration number, system will give the details of all open purchase order lines as well for planning.

    Neeraj Kumar

    Hi Sagar,

I have reviewed all the queries, during production order creation business dont want to plan instead they want to plan during Sales order creation it self so it would be really required during SO creation for planner to determine it better.

Business may be okay with proposed solution but for PCM its not populating the components. again its half cooked for now also on Open purchase order lines i am thinking how to get through sales order i am not sure.

    Thanks.

    Hi

If your customer is not suffering from strong nostalgia of legacy system the standard D365 Production floor workspace is a very powerful place to monitor everything.

The Production orders to release option allows you to run material availability check and gives a clear status in the bottom grid for proper decision making before release.

There are other options also. Please explore this. I have implemented this with many customers and it's the best central place for monitoring production order management for its components.

    Hi Kishore,

For first point, i have given detailed answer in this link please refer.

If you apply the similar query on On-hand form and Inventory transactions form, it will help you to save time in doing these navigations for BOM components. And once you setup the query, you can add those in any of the workspace that you generally use as a Tile, it will be opened directly.. and you just need to open the form and filter with your Main item, it will give details of its BOM line items.

If you find any difficulty in applying the solution, please let us know.

Actually to handle these kind of scenarios, Microsoft gives lot of other options like Explosion, Net Requirements (on Sales order lines), and Available to Promise (which works on concept of MRP and give you delivery dates that can be promised, after considering the on-hand stock, lead time, open PO, SOs and many other important setups..

If this helped, please mark it as "Verified" for others facing the same issue Keep in mind that it is possible to mark more than one answer as verified
