[Dual-Write] 0x80040265 – No Default Unit Error When Releasing Products to Legal Entities

Posted on by 16

When releasing a product from the Product form to other legal entities, the Dual-Write sync fails with the following error on the EcoResReleasedDistinctProductCDSEntity:

"No default unit set. The product default unit group cannot be defaulted. For integration scenarios (like Dual Write), please make sure that a valid unit ID is mapped to the default unit for this product. The default unit and default unit group columns are mandatory."
Error code: 0x80040265

What's Happening:

The legal entity release flow triggers a write to the products entity in Dataverse via Dual-Write. At the point of sync, Dataverse expects both defaultuomid (Default Unit) and defaultuomscheduleid (Default Unit Group) to be populated. If the unit mapped on the released product in F&O doesn't resolve to a valid Dataverse unit record — whether due to a missing field mapping, an unsynced unit, or a gap in the value map — the write fails.

Note: This issue is specific to the legal entity release flow. Products created manually through Dataverse or synced via other paths may not exhibit the same behavior, pointing to a table map execution ordering issue where the unit reference hasn't landed in Dataverse before the product write is attempted.

This error — “No default unit set. The product default unit group cannot be defaulted” — occurs when the released product record in Finance & Operations (F&O) doesn’t have a valid Default Unit and Default Unit Group mapped to corresponding records in Dataverse. During the legal entity release flow, Dual‑Write attempts to create or update the product in Dataverse via the EcoResReleasedDistinctProductCDSEntity. If either field is missing or unresolved, the write fails with error code 0x80040265.
    🔍 Root Cause
    • The Default Unit (defaultuomid) or Default Unit Group (defaultuomscheduleid) is empty or points to a unit not yet synced to Dataverse.
    • The Unit of Measure mapping between F&O and Dataverse hasn’t completed before the product release write executes.
    • The table map execution order causes the product write to occur before the unit reference is available in Dataverse.
    🧩 Recommended Fix
    • Verify unit mapping in Dual‑Write: Open the Dual‑Write table map for Units of Measure (EcoResUnitCDSEntity) and confirm that all units used by released products exist in Dataverse. Run a manual sync if necessary.
    • Check Default Unit fields in F&O: In the Released product details form, ensure both Default unit and Default unit group are populated. These must correspond to valid Dataverse records.
    • Re‑sync dependent entities: Re‑run synchronization for Units of Measure, Unit Groups, and Products. This ensures Dataverse has the required references before the product release write.
    • Adjust table map execution order: If the issue persists, review the EcoResReleasedDistinctProductCDSEntity map dependencies. Ensure the unit entity maps execute before the product entity map.
    • Validate Dataverse unit references: In Dataverse, open the product record and confirm that both Default Unit and Default Unit Group fields are populated with valid GUIDs.
    💡 Additional Tip
For large‑scale releases, consider enabling pre‑validation logic via Power Automate or a custom plug‑in that checks unit mappings before triggering the Dual‑Write product release. This prevents failed writes and ensures consistent data integrity across legal entities.
