Best practices for customizing Dynamics 365 forms without impacting performance?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on a Dynamics 365 implementation and looking to customize some forms to better fit our business process. While adding fields and modifying layouts is straightforward, I’m concerned about potential impacts on system performance and user experience.

Can anyone share best practices or tips for form customizations—especially things to avoid or performance optimization techniques? Also, how do you test the impact of customizations before deploying them live?

I’ve been exploring insights on the Dynamics 365 Community as well, but would love to hear your personal experiences and recommendations.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best practices for customizing Dynamics 365 forms without impacting performance?
    Hi CU09061548-0,

    Question:
    1. Which product is this question related to?

Assuming it is D365 F&SCM, if you are looking to do customizations on forms then you need to use the various form patterns available, depending on the screen being designed from scratch. Added some references for the same. Would recommend enabling best practices and eradicate all the best practice errors post form design.

If it is an extension, then you can enable Best practices and on the existing form you can check the form pattern style in the Pattern section in Visual studio. At the same time, you can preview the changes in the Preview pane in Visual studio.

Hope this helps. Happy to answer questions, if any.

It depends on the Dynamics 365 product. The techniques differ quite a bit, like with D365 F&O I'd avoid customizations, while in D365 Sales it EASY to just add a new form to a table without touching the standard forms.
Can you tell us what product you are implementing exactly?
