Budget activation issue

Hello,

While I was trying to update the budget control configuration, I faced an error message that was generic and didn't tell much.

We proceeded with technical and functional investigations without success. All we could find is that the budget control configuration creates a line in the background, and whenever you create a draft, a new line is added; however, once you activate this draft, the old line gets deleted automatically, and this is not happening in our system. Thus, I wanted to share it here; maybe someone encountered this issue before. If it is the case, please let me know how you dealt with it.

Hi,

I would try to turn off and re try activation or try to exclude few documents from budget control parameters and then again add them.

Else raise microsoft support to get this shorted.

Hi Walid,

If budget control is currently turned off, then yes — you should be able to activate the configuration again. The error you saw earlier usually happens when the system tries to switch from a draft to active while budget control is still running.

When budget control is on, the system locks certain records and expects consistency between draft and active configurations.

If you try to activate a new draft while it’s on, the background process can fail.

Turning it off clears those locks and allows the activation routine to commit the new configuration cleanly.

Hello All,

Thanks for all your insightful replies.

Unfortunately, we are still facing the same error. We switched off budget control, and then we tried to activate the budget; however, we faced the same error. We concluded that even when the budget control is switched off, the budget control is still active in the backend, so activation doesn't work.

The issue is still occurring; thus, please let us know if you have any other suggestions.

Hi,

Could you please click the Create Draft button and add another account structure? Also, please check whether the active default dimensions are included in the Budget Control dimensions.

Could you please check whether the toggle buttons above are enabled?

Could you please activate and turn on the above setup? I have verified it in my dev environment, and it is working fine.

If the issue persists, could you please check the batch job for any errors and debug to identify where the issue is occurring? If it still cannot be resolved, kindly raise an MS ticket for further assistance.

After reactivation still the record exists, we can try to delete the record in the dev environment and check the error has been fixed. if yes, maybe you can raise a ticket with MS for the support for other environments.

Usually when we see this error, it’s because a configuration is missing.
From the screenshot you shared, the configuration looks good. However, since the error is quite generic, could you please share the remaining budget control configuration you set up?
