How to delete the Sample data imported when Higher Education Accelerator was added to the environment

    Hi Girish,

Thanks for your question. Removing sample data from the Higher Education Accelerator can be a bit tricky, especially if the standard method via Data Management > Sample Data > Remove Sample Data doesn’t fully clear it.

Here are a few steps you can try:

    1. Use Advanced Find

      • Go to Advanced Find and search for entities like Contacts, Students, Courses, etc.
      • Filter by records created during the sample data import and bulk delete them.
    2. Bulk Delete Jobs

      • Navigate to Settings > Data Management > Bulk Record Deletion.
      • Create a new bulk delete job targeting sample data entities.
    3. Solution Uninstall/Reinstall

      • If possible, uninstall the Higher Education Accelerator and reinstall it without importing sample data.
      • This option is best suited for DEV environments.
    4. Custom Cleanup Script

      • If you're comfortable with development, you can write a custom plugin or PowerShell script to delete sample data across environments.
    5. Environment-Specific Cleanup

      • Repeat the cleanup steps in DEV, UAT, and PROD separately, as sample data is environment-specific.

Let me know if this helps, and please mark the response as helpful if it answered your question 😊

    Best regards!

RE: How to delete the Sample data imported when Higher Education Accelerator was added to the environment

    Hi Beth

Regular Dynamics 365 sample data can be managed (installed/uninstalled) at any point in time (regardless of environment) through the system functionality.,

Whilst understanding that HE sample data would normally be used for demo/dev environments, there are given scenarios where we'd want to start off using it, and then remove it from the environment. Rather than needing to do this table by table (which can be laborious) it would be good to have a tool available that could automatically strip it out for us.

    Regards

    EY

    Many Thanks, Beth,

so just to confirm to delete Higher Education sample data we have to manually delete individual entity data rather than bulk remove sample data from settings

    Thanks for reaching out, Girish.

Sample data should not be installed in prod environments. It is meant for demo/dev environments, it doesn’t come with the accelerator by default, only when the sample data checkbox is checked on the SPA install experience.

There is no option to uninstall/delete the sample data by one click, it can be easily deleted one entity at a time. Please reach out to our support team at dynindaccsupport@microsoft.com if you need more assistance.

    Best,

    Beth
