Moving careers

Hiya, I'm currently 22 and I'm currently restore classic cars but due to many reasons, some including money, holiday, and work life balance, I'm looking to change careers towards being a d365 ce functional consultant.

I've just passed pl-900 and I'm looking at working towards mb-910 and pl-200 as due to my job I can't switch careers for another year or so, but I'm trying to gain every advantage and skill I can so I can have a good entry into this new career.

I'm quite happy learning all the theory of 365 and power apps but I want to gain practical experience aswell, I've seen the MS applied skills exams I can do and they seem like a good option before approaching my own project.

I would just like to know how people would go about this, any recommendations and also would love to hear if anyone else has made a similar transition.

Also if anyone could give me what I could expect salary wise and job position with all of these certs and maybe some personal experience behind me, I'm in the UK for reference.

Thank you very much!

    Hello,

You're on a great path, passing PL-900 and aiming for MB-910 and PL-200 is a solid foundation for a career as a D365 CE Functional Consultant. Since you're still a year away from transitioning, use this time to build hands-on experience by practicing in a free Power Apps Developer Plan environment, trying MS Learn labs, and working on mini projects (like mock CRM setups for fictional businesses). Applied Skills exams are also great for validating your practical knowledge. Joining LinkedIn groups or Dynamics communities will also help you network and stay on track. Keep going you're making smart, strategic moves!

    Hope this will help you!

    Regards,
    Mansi Soni

Hey, great to see someone else making a career change into D365. I think your plan sounds solid. Taking the time now to build certifications and practical experience will definitely help you hit the ground running later. The applied skills exams are a good step, and if you can find ways to build a small portfolio it’ll make your CV stand out when the time comes.

Salary-wise, in the UK, junior or entry-level roles often start around £28k–£35k depending on the company, region, and whether you land in a consultancy or an internal team. With PL-200, MB-910, and some hands-on experience, you’d probably position yourself for one of those junior functional roles fairly comfortably.

Best of luck on your journey into D365.
