Hi Experts

We have a company that uses FIFO costing (no item tracking, no fixed profit % and no fixed profit percentage), this has caused some transactions to post where the Selling Price is less than cost price.

Is there a standard way we can prevent this or even warn users that they should not sell below the FIFO cost or should we do a custom development?

Business Central doesn’t provide a built-in safeguard against selling below FIFO cost — a custom solution or process control is needed.

Hi,

No, there is no standard warning or block in BC to prevent users from selling below cost.
There are few workarounds but that would need continuous monitoring and modifications.

I would recommend creating a custom validation on sales line to compare the cost.

No sir absolutely not and there shouldn't be any validation like this either.

If you are doing your business in a loss altogether then we need to investigate and correct the system.

GL will show you the COGS value so you can always check as per the unit cost and costing method like it's above or below the unit price.

Hi Tris,

Out-of-the-box, Business Central does not block sales below cost.

Not having toggle to enforce “Unit Price > Unit Cost.”

As far as I know, this can only be customized.

FIFO Costing Warning

This isn’t possible. The system maintains a link between an item’s cost and price, but the cost can change since it can be updated even after the sale. That’s why this can’t be done.

FIFO Costing Warning

There’s no standard functionality in Business Central to prevent selling below FIFO cost. You can handle this by adding a customization to check and block such transactions.
