We are using Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 R2 together with Microsoft 365 office, and i'm trying to configure email functionality from Dynamics GP. During the setup, the system asks for logon details, but we consistently receive a “Logon Failed” error. The email settings are configured to use Exchange. We attempted to sign in using the email address and password of a account.  who has an Exchange Online Plan 1 license, and MFA is not enabled for this account. We have five users in total, and i want all users to send remittances from a single email address. trying to configure this and get this to work any suggestions ?

For our one remaining GP 2016 client, they lost the ability to send email (with Word Templates) a few years ago following an M365 update that impacted Word Templates.  It's possible that there is now a solution in the below guide:

Dynamics GP Email Troubleshooting Guide - Dynamics GP | Microsoft Learn - Dynamics GP | Microsoft Learn - Includes link to "Login Failed" (assuming that is the error you are receiving).  (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-gp/installation/email-troubleshooting-guide#login-failed-check-your-login-information-and-try-again)
Please update this post with any additional information (success/failure) as you work through your troubleshooting.

    Hello,

Getting this to work in 2016 is going to be hit or miss. It will either work or it will not. I would honestly suggest upgrading to at least 18.4, preferable 18.7 as there have been numerous fixes to the email process.

If you do get it to work in 2016, expect not everything to work as many fixes were done in later versions.

Depending on the actual version of GP 2016 you are on will also determine if you can email out of GP.

The error you are getting likely due to attempting to use the old way of emailing and Basic Auth has been disabled for you. Microsoft went and disabled this as well as TLS 1.0.

I would first point you to the article below to make sure you have the Azure Setup completed as this is needed to get your Application ID to be able to even email out of GP.

If you have not completed that, this would be the first place to start.

    Other helpful links.

    I hope this helps!

    Thank you!
