One of the new features that has been released recently is the Small parcel shipping feature. This is a helpful feature in warehouse management and transportation management, which was actually one of the missing pieces of the puzzle. The small parcel shipping feature allows you to send a transport request for a shipment to logistic carriers like UPS or FedEx. After a ‘transport request’ the carrier may send you a shipment label and the transport costs. The shipment label will then be printed automatically at a configured label printer and the shipping costs will be added to the sales order. In this blog I will guide you through the functional setup and process for a logistical demo carrier.
Configuration
2. You have to save the DLL to a folder on the server: \AOSService\PackagesLocalDirectory\ApplicationSuite\bin
3. Subsequently, set up a Rate engine.
Path: Transportation management > Setup > Engines > Rate engines
4. Then, the following settings need to be configured for a shipping carrier:
- A shipping carrier (needs to be activated)
- A carrier service
- A rating profile with a link to the rate engine
Path: Transportation management > Setup > Carriers > Shipping carriers
5. A carrier service account
Path: Transportation management > Setup > Rating > Carrier service account
6. Also, a few settings are important for the container packing policy:
- Automatic manifest + manifest requirements for containers
- Printer container shipping label rule
- Printer name
Path: Warehouse management > Setup > Containers > Container packing policies
7. A packing profile
Path: Warehouse management > Setup > Packing > Packing profiles
8. A customer which may use small parcel shipping
Path: Accounts receivable > Customers > All customers
Demonstration
1. A sales order for customer US-27. The shipping carrier ‘Demo carrier’ has been added to the sales order header.
Path: Accounts receivable > Orders > All sales orders
2. Release the sales order to the warehouse
3. Complete the pick and put work
4. Start the packing process
Path: Warehouse management > Packing and containerization > pack
5. Create a new container and pack all items into the container
6. When closing the container, a transport request will be send to the carrier. The carrier will then send a shipment label and a tracking number.
7. After closing, the container will receive a manifest ID from the carrier automatically.
Path: Warehouse management > Packing and containerization > Containers
8. A transaction has been created in the ‘Transportation management transactions’
Path: Transportation management > Periodic tasks > Transactions
