Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise Security Roles Documentation

Context: I am setting up a Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise environment, and while assigning security roles, I noticed there are many roles available and I’m not sure what each one does.

Is there any Microsoft documentation that explains the purpose and permissions of each security role?

    There is no single Microsoft document that explains every security role individually.
    Instead:
    • Microsoft documents the security model and concepts
    • You must inspect each role inside Dynamics to understand its permissions
    • Roles are solution-driven and cumulative, not fixed job templates
     
    Role Purpose
    System Administrator Full access (everything)
    App Opener Minimal role just to open apps
    Salesperson / AISalesperson Sales-related functionality
    Knowledge Manager Knowledge base management
    Schedule Manager Resource scheduling
    Sequence Manager Sales sequences
    Desktop Flow Machine Config RPA-related
    Customer Service App access App-specific access

    • These roles are solution-specific, not all meant for one user

    System security roles are solution specific and give an idea generally that what you should have as per security role name which generally specific based on its name, there is no specific security role documentation for these , MS generally document that how security roles works.
    When you are creating your documentation , below tool will help you to get the role privileges and extract those in excel.
