PowerFx Buttons Not Visible on Form Command Bar When Opening Record via Direct Link

Hi everyone,

I’m facing an issue with PowerFx command bar buttons in the Customer Service app.

  • The buttons are visible when I open a record through the app navigation.

  • However, if I open the same record via a direct link (deep link to the record, via copy link button or share button), the PowerFx buttons are not displayed on the form command bar.

We are using the Customer Service app with tab sessions enabled.

Has anyone experienced this behavior?

  • Is this a known limitation when using session tabs and direct record links?

  • Is there a workaround to make the PowerFx buttons consistently appear?

Thanks in advance for your help!

PowerFx Buttons Not Visible on Form Command Bar When Opening Record via Direct Link
I could not find official Microsoft-docs that say deep linking + session tabs causes PowerFx (modern command bar) buttons to be hidden, but I found evidence that this is indeed behaving like a limitation/bug in some scenarios. Below I summarize what I found, possible causes, and some workarounds you can try. If you want, I can help you build a repro to see exactly what’s going on in your case.

    • There’s a Microsoft KB article about buttons being hidden when they should be visible, often due to display or enable rules evaluating to false.
    • The “Command Designer / Modern Commanding” model (using PowerFx formulas) has some visibility / enable-rule limitations. For example, certain rules are only evaluated in certain contexts. The context difference (navigating through app vs. deep linking) might matter.
    • There are user forum posts saying that command bar / ribbon buttons (especially custom ones using PowerFx) sometimes disappear or don’t render in certain modes. Sometimes after saving / publishing component libraries.
    • I did not locate a specific Microsoft-documented limitation that deep links + session tabs always hide PowerFx buttons, but many people on forums are seeing similar behavior, so it may be an as-yet undocumented issue or bug.
