Business events use case for high frequency events

Hello Experts,

One of our customers has integration scenario where we are considering business events for an outbound integration point. Payload is small one which fits with what MS suggests in case of business events. But question is frequency. Expectation is that there will be 5000 or 6000 of events raised every day considering the future as well. Client wants to use the events based integrations. Has anyone used business events with high frequency of events going out? If, at all, using Business events right for this scenario?  If yes then which of the Business events end points suits this high frequency requirement better? If no then other best would either the ER or DMF?

Thank you,
Deepak.

    Alright,

We also use our own developed software that receives business events from D365FO, but we dont have that amount as you mentioned.
My suggestion is to check if the third party software can use a service bus to handle the amount of business events. Usually the business events received are put in a queue and processed one by one. Generally, I think it is something that needs to be solved in the third party software, if possible.
Considering other methods in D365FO would be the export via DMF, however, this is not align with your requirement that the data needs to be sent near real time.

    Kind regards, Adis

    Hello André,

Yes, I am still looking for answer.

With regards to end point, its Event grid, or other end points which can support this high frequency events.

"Once the external app received the business event, will more information be retrieved from Dynamics 365?" : No.

"Do you have any peak moments during the day?" Probably events will occur within short duration. Around 1000 to 1500 in 5 minutes.

To Adis question (Sorry , I am responding late), "What I mean, what are you doing with the business event, creating a Power Automate Flow? Or do you use it for your own app?" : A third party app will eventually receive these events with the payload.

    Thank you,
    Deepak.

    Hi Deepak,

Are you still looking for an answer? If yes, can you tell which application should receive the business event? Are you e.g. creating a Power Automate Flow or use an event grid? Once the external app received the business event, will more information be retrieved from Dynamics 365? Do you have any peak moments during the day? E.g. 1000 events in a specific hour of the day?

    Hello,

    Thanks for the response.

    regarding:
Could you please elaborate on the "Integrate it within D365"? Do you mean that we call the external api directly from D365FO?

What I mean, what are you doing with the business event, creating a Power Automate Flow? Or do you use it for your own app?

    Kind regards, Adis

     : Hello Adis,

    Thanks for your response.

Here are my answers to your questions highlighted in yellow.

Can you explain when the business event should be triggered and what you are doing with the integration point? : Business event should be triggered when a serialised item moves to a particular location.

Is it mandatory that you get an information near real time: Yes this is most preferred.

If yes, paired with high frequency, then the question is why dont you integrate it within D365. : Could you please elaborate on the "Integrate it within D365"? Do you mean that we call the external api directly from D365FO?

Thanks again for your response. I appreciate it.

    Regards,
    Deepak.

    Hello,

Can you explain when the business event should be triggered and what you are doing with the integration point?

Apart from that, I would consider the following approach questions:

-Is it mandatory that you get an information near real time, f.e. when you create a record?
If yes, paired with high frequency, then the question is why dont you integrate it within D365. For low frequency I it makes sense as Power apps are much       easier to adapt compared to coding with x++ and release
If no, then I would suggest to pull the data from the table (entity), f.e. with Power Apps, and then do whatever you want. You can set up a recurrency for every 5 min or so.

    Kind regards, Adis
