Hi Team, Can anyone help with fully blocking an inventory location to prevent inventory adjustments? The location is already blocked for input and output, but it still allows inventory adjustments. How can this be completely blocked?

Thank you

Dear you have to stop by using default order setting on each item.

If I understand your requirement correctly, you have an item with Inventory Status = Blocked, and you expect that if someone tries to post an inventory adjustment for this item, the system should restrict the transaction.

However, in D365 F&SCM, the Blocked inventory status only prevents certain operational transactions such as production orders, sales orders, transfer orders, and other outbound processes (Warehouse Processes). It does not prevent inventory adjustment journals, so users can still post adjustments even when the inventory status is blocked.

If your requirement is to also prevent adjustments when the inventory status is Blocked, this would typically require customization, because the standard functionality does not enforce that restriction.

Alternatively, if the goal is to completely stop the item from any inventory transactions, you could use Default order settings and set Stopped = Yes for inventory. This will block inventory transactions for the item.

That said, if you configure this at a specific site or warehouse, there may still be scenarios where the same site/warehouse contains a mix of inventory with different statuses (e.g., Blocked and Available). In such cases, this approach might not fully meet the requirement. Because it will hold item completely irrespective of Inventory status of item.

Currently, there is no standard functionality to completely block inventory specifically at the location level.

However, you can reserve or block inventory using the Inventory Blocking functionality. For this to work, the inventory status must be set to Available. This allows you to select the inventory with the Available status when applying the Block/Reserve. Once the inventory is blocked, the system will not allow it to be deducted or issued, but you can still post a positive inventory adjustment if needed.

    Hi Yamini,

How are you executing the inventory adjustment? Via a journal or via the Mobile device app?

    Best regards,

Hi Yamini, you have configured the necessary setup for location blocking using the Input blocked and Output blocked options. But, this does not work for inventory adjustments, although it does work for some operations, Example: Inventory Movement Journal. Based on the standard out-of-the-box functionality, location blocking is not supported for this scenario. Alternatively, you can use Inventory Blocking as an option.
