Update via Data Import

Hello

I'm really struggling to complete a data update via an import (specifically, I want to make contacts inactive)

I've got a CSV file that was exported (so it's got the GUID data in the file). I've added a row, with the status to be set to inactive.

After searching online, I've tried unpublishing duplicate detection rules and toggling on and off the allow duplicates in the import wizard.

The fields are all mapped (including the contact ID field) - every time, it just throws up 'A record with these values already exists. A duplicate record cannot be created'

Depending on whether I try with duplicate detection rules on/off, the 'More information' column under failures says either 'Operation failed due to a SQL integrity violation' or 'A record was not created or updated because a duplicate already exists'.

It's finding the records, just not updating them.

Any ideas what I'm missing here?

Thank you.

    Hello,

Have you tried using Excel Online for this? I think it would be simpler and more practical for your situation.

But if you really want to import the data, don't deleteor Update the ABC columns (when you download the file from the CRM), and when importing, check the option to allow duplicates.

    Good morning,

Echoing Jimmy's response above, editing via Excel online will likely be easier for this scenario.

If you navigate to the Contacts table, and then, if one doesn't already exist, create View filtered to the Contacts that you would like to change to Inactive. Also ensure this includes the Status column.

Then navigate to the drop down on the top navigation and click 'Open in Excel Online'.

Change the Status to Inactive in the column in the excel spreadsheet, and then click Save.

This then imports the changes in the back end, without having to run through the usual import process.

More detailed instructions can be found here: Edit Data in Excel online

Thank you, both, for taking the time to reply.

Have tried checking the option to allow duplicates, but I still get the same error about duplicates existing, unable to update.

The option of working in Excel online isn't possible (I have downloaded the contact list from a segment, so there is only the option to export members - not to open in Excel online.

I also tried creating a contact view based on segment membership, as this would allow me to do the Excel online edits, but after a lot of research, it looks like that's not possible either!
