A license plate is a great feature for the transportation of items from one location to another. It is a unique identification number which represents one or multiple products, such as a pallet, container or box. In addition to that, Dynamics also has a feature called parent license plates, for the movement of multiple license plates in one time. Via the warehouse management app, you can connect multiple license plates to a parent license plate. Let’s demonstrate this with an example. From the picture below you can see a rack with multiple boxes. Every box has its own license plate, e.g., box 1 and box 2. The parent of box 1 and box 2 is box 12. If you move box 12 to a different location, Dynamics moves both box 1 and box 2 to another location. This way, parent license plates make transportation processes and the work of warehouse workers much more efficient.
Configuration
1. The first thing you need to configure is the ‘child license plates’ and a ‘parent license plate’. This can be performed through the form ‘license plates’. For this example, I have created three license plates: box 1, box 2 and box 12.
Path: Warehouse management > Setup > Warehouse > License plates
2. To connect a license plate to a parent license, the Mode and Activity code from mobile device menu items have to be set as ‘Indirect’ and ‘License plate build’.
Path: Warehouse management > Setup > Mobile device > Mobile device menu items
3. The mobile device menu item then has to be added to a mobile device menu. In this example the menu item has been linked to the menu ‘Inventory’.
Path: Warehouse management > Setup > Mobile device menu
Demonstration
1. Box 1 and Box 2 contain different items at location A002
Path: Inventory management > Inquiries and reports > On hand list
2. Open the warehouse management app and select ‘Inventory’ from the main menu.
3. When you see the inventory menu, click on the menu item ‘License plate build’.
4. The warehouse management app requests to scan/enter the parent license. In this example, the parent license plate ‘box 12’ is being scanned/entered. After entering the parent license plate, you have to click on the confirm button.
5. The next step is to scan the child license plate. The child license plate in this example is box 1 and box 2. After scanning, you need to click on the confirm button.
6. After scanning box 1, box 2 can be scanned and entered as well.
7. When the scanning of the ‘child license plates’ has been performed, the user can click on the ‘Done button’.

8. The parent license plate connection is now visible in the overview of the license plates.
Path: Warehouse management > Setup > Warehouse > License plates
9.Now, let’s move the parent license ‘box 12” from location ‘A002’ to ‘B002’. To complete this movement, you have to select ‘Movement’ from the ‘Inventory’ in the warehouse management app.
10. The warehouse management app requests to scan/enter a license plate. In this example, the parent license plate ‘box 12’ is being scanned and entered. After scanning, the user can click on the confirm button.
11. The warehouse management app requests to scan the new location. In this example it concerns location B001. After scanning, the user clicks on the confirm button.
12. In the on-hand list it has now become visible that the items including the license plates have been moved to location B001.
